The goal of the NCIEC Needs Assessment team is to provide current information and data regarding the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and beliefs of various constituencies as a means of informing the strategic planning of NCIEC goals and priorities as they relate to interpreter education.
The information from the Needs Assessments informs the decisions and policies of the National Consortium, and is useful to the field of interpreting and interpreter education at large. To date, the Needs Assessment Team has completed five national needs assessments and one comparison report, which have been distributed widely nationally and internationally.

In Year 5, the team is preparing several additional assessments, including:
- Needs Assessment: Vocational Rehabilitation Interpreters
- Synthesis report of the information collected from all the needs assessments in order to compare findings and identify areas of need for education and training of qualified interpreters, with a specific focus on VR consumers.
We are also focusing on dissemination efforts in Year 5, including national webinars for:
- Vocational Rehabilitation agencies regarding the findings of the VR Interpreting Needs Assessment
- Interpreter Education Programs re: The trends analysis report from the 2007/2010 comparison data
- RID Board, Regional Representatives and Chapter Presidents re: Practitioners comparison report
- Various national and international conferences
