Looking For a Mentor/Program / Questions to Consider / Sample Interview Questions

When looking for a mentor that is right for you, it is important to meet with them to find out more about their mentoring philosophy, and to make sure the two of you will be a good fit. You may consider using the following questions as part of this interview process.

  1. What is your mentor philosophy?

  2. What is your availability? Do you have the time to devote to a mentorship?

  3. How much do you charge?

  4. Where did you get your professional interpreting training?

  5. Where did you get your mentorship training?

  6. How long have you been interpreting?

  7. How long have you been mentoring?

  8. What is your favorite mentorship activity?

  9. What are your areas of mentorship expertise?

  10. What are some of your favorite skill building exercises?

  11. How do you like to structure mentorships?

  12. How often, and over what period of time, do you feel is adequate to meet?

  13. When are you most often available (mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends)?

  14. What are your expectations of a mentee?

  15. May I have references?
